Overview

​The IIE Bachelor of Commerce degree (BCom) has been designed to address the national skills shortage of versatile business leaders who are required to perform a range of business functions, from financial and/or general business managers to entrepreneurs and marketers.

DURATION

This is a three-year qualification offered by The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE).

MODE OF DELIVERY

This IIE qualification is available through IIE distance learning for individuals wanting to study and work. This IIE qualification is also offered under a new model of curriculum delivery called blended learning. The blended learning model is a learning and teaching curriculum delivery model that promotes the flexibility of distance education with a blend of on-campus academic support. This model also offers a unique blend of flexibility and optimises access to educational and physical infrastructural resources at a contact campus.

Integrating distance education and on-campus academic support creates a balanced and comprehensive learning experience. Students can tailor their learning journey to suit their needs, preferences, and schedules. This innovative approach promotes academic success and empowers students to take control of their education while ensuring they receive guidance, support, and access to resources necessary for their academic journey and success. 

This mode of curriculum provision offers a distance education student flexibility and accessibility of a well-rounded educational experience that leverages the strengths of both online and in-person learning methods and support.

A student from distance education who opt for distance blended learning model will benefit from a comprehensive learning experience that integrates the advantages of distance education (online) with an opportunity of receiving facilitated academic support sessions at a chosen contact campus, and as well as access to physical infrastructural and educational resources when needed for academic development and success.

Accreditation

The IIE Bachelor of Commerce is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and is registered by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) as a 360-credit qualification on Level 7 (SAQA ID No: 84706). On successful completion you will receive a Degree in Bachelor of Commerce from The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE), a leading registered private provider of higher education in South Africa.

The IIE Bachelor of Commerce is recognised by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) as adhering to FAIS Fit and Proper requirements.

Device Requirements

DEVICE AND CONNECTIVITY SPECIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR ONLINE STUDY:

• Reliable internet connection (we recommend 5-10 GB of data per month and an internet speed of at least 0.15 Mbps)
• Desktop PC or laptop with at least an i3 processor and 4GB RAM memory
• Windows 8 or macOS 10.15 (Microsoft Office 365 is available as a free download for IIE students), and Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge Chromium or Firefox
• A working webcam and microphone
• An uninterrupted power supply is also highly recommended

Examination

Exams are written at an exam centre and, in some instances, online. These details will be specified in your programme assessment schedule.

Pathways

The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE) offers you the opportunity to start with a higher certificate and progress into a diploma, a degree, or a postgraduate qualification.
