The IIE Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Senior Phase and Further Education and Training Teaching is a professional teaching qualification that seeks to 'cap' a suitable undergraduate Degree or an approved Diploma.
The purpose of this programme is to qualify students to follow a career in teaching in the Senior Phase (Grades 7-9) and Further Education and Training band (Grades 10-12). The IIE PGCE (Senior Phase and Further Education and Training) provides both a fundamental and comprehensive education underpinned by subject and pedagogic knowledge in specialized teaching in specific Senior Phase and Further Education and Training band subjects.
The programme focuses on foundational education theory and methodology and is therefore closely aligned with the requirements of a professionally qualified beginner teacher. (MRTEQ,2015). The qualification offers entry-level initial professional preparation for undergraduate Degree or Diploma holders who wish to develop focused knowledge and skills as classroom teachers in the Senior Phase (SP) and Further Education and Training (FET) band in their chosen subject(s).

The qualification offers entry-level initial professional preparation for undergraduate Degree or Diploma holders who wish to develop focused knowledge and skills as classroom teachers in the Senior Phase (SP) and Further Education and Training (FET) band in their chosen subject(s).

DURATION
This is a one-year qualification offered by The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE).
MODE OF DELIVERY
Contact (Full-time): Contact lectures take place during the day, on weekdays, at the following campuses: Bloemfontein, Braamfontein, Cape Town, Durban, Mbombela, Nelson Mandela Bay, Polokwane, and Pretoria.
The IIE Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Senior Phase and Further Education and Training Teaching is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and is registered by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) as a 120-credit qualification on Level 7 (SAQA ID No: 101984). On successful completion you will receive a Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Senior Phase and Further Education and Training Teaching from The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE), a leading registered private provider of higher education in South Africa.
School-based Work Integrated Learning (WIL) is a critical component of Teacher Education Qualifications, the requirements of which are stipulated by DHET. Students will be required to complete a minimum of 8-weeks in school-based WIL (4-weeks in Grades 7, 8 and 9 and 4-weeks in Grades 10, 11 and 12) as per the IIE Academic Calendar.
The Teaching experience module is to give students an opportunity to observe Mentor Teachers, their roles and duties, documentation, assessment system, classroom management, teacher co-operation and development, school system and school within the community context. They will carry out the practical applications of the teaching principles, theories, and concepts they have acquired. Teaching experience is a compulsory module.

Exams are written at an exam centre and, in some instances, online. These details will be specified in your programme assessment schedule.
